Re: set record start point

If you want the new recording to start at a specific point then set your cursor there in the existing track ad the press Shift+Record If you always or mostly want to record on a new track you can swap the record behavior around in Recording prefe...

Personally I think it would be better for Audacity to have a separate analyzer. This way it could provide more information in one plug-in (Example: Loudness, RMS, max / min peaks, DC-offset, bit-depth, ...)
Big +1 for that suggestion Steve,

Peter.

Re: Improvements to track management

Issue: when tracks are added by drag-and-drop, they always go to the bottom of the stack. Suggestion: When an existing track is selected, incoming drag-and-drop tracks are inserted immediately underneath that track. We have just modified the "Mix and Render" feature so that mixed tracks a...

Re: Improvements to track management

I was a little confused initially between the current track (yellow border) and the selected track (light background) ... You're not the only one - I could never figure out what the "focus" was for for years. I added a little section about "focus" to the Manual for the soon to b...

Re: Improvements to track management

the level and pan sliders would be wider and easier to set with greater precision. If you double click in the slider widget you will get a window pop up where, a) the slider is wider b) you can set the value numerically by typing. Slider window.png BTW a single left-click on the slider widget (in t...

Re: Improvements to track management

the extra width would provide more space to write out the track name. Do you know that there is a setting in Tracks Preferenced to display the trackname overlaif on the Waveform ? https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tracks_preferences.html Check "on" Show audio track name as overlay Peter.

Re: Improvements to track management

Issue : Access to Mute and Solo buttons lost when a track is collapsed. Suggestion : Make the left-hand track control panel wide enough to accommodate the Select, Mute, and Solo buttons side by side. This would have several advantages: What I would rather see (as I wouldn't want to lose track wavef...

Is this the version that will have the data and aup files combined into one file?
No.
That is the version that will come later this year - if all goes according to plan

Re: Show file extensions in window title bar

You might want to try setting the Tracks preference to make track names show on the Tracks - set Show audio track name as overlay to be on. See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tracks_preferences.html It won't show the file extension - but you can always include the file type as part of you file...
