Re: trouble getting right recording volume with 1.3.5
John, For a start I would upgrade to the current Beta version 1.3.7 When I record streaming audio, e.g. from YouTube, I control the sound level with the Laptop PC's sound manager - in my case the Realtek HD Audio Manager - and not using Audacity's sliders. What you have will depend on your computer ...

I have deleted the two non-informative posts in this thread that merely seemed to serve the purpose of promoting people's websites.

Re: Play CD and rerecord with Volumn changes
1) Either play the CD and record it into Audacity - or rip it as a (set of) WAV files and load those into Audacity. 2) Then you can vary the amplification along the timeline of the track(s) by using the Envelope tool (icon is two little white triangles pointing to a little dot, with a blue line runn...

Re: Temp file problem
The other thing that you may want to try - provided Norton can be configured that way - is to set the anti-virus to ignore/trust all .aup and .au files.

Re: Help with LAME MP3 Encoder Install
You could try a workaround that I proposed for a similar posting recently. Search t'Interwebfor a standalone MP3 encoder - export your filesfrom Audacity as WAV files - then process them through the standalone encoder. You will almost certainly find that whatever standalone encoder you use will affo...

Re: Recording on existing track
You can't do in 1n 1.2 - but in 1.3 the developers have added this facility - in 1.3 you can hit SHIFT+RECORD or SHIFT+R k/b shortcut and the track will continue where it left off. The work-around for this in 1.2 is to Pause the recording and the press Pause again to restart in the same track. WC

Re: No ability to choose MP3 bit rate under Preferences, als
WilliamTell, a workaround for you would be to ignore the LAME plug-in for Audacity and use an external MP3 converter. You will need to export your projects as WAV files for conversion and you will need to search t'interweb for a suitable converter (you should be able to find a free one). There are a...

Re: 1.3.6 Menu Structure
Actually no need to move it now - a recent posting by one of the Developers, Gale Andrews, explained in a similar thread what the developers are working on in this respect.
See http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9051
So hopefully in 1.4 both options should be available.
