Have a read of the Audacity Tutorials and tips - the links are at the top of the Audacity forum screen Thanks for your reply. I hope 'United' stay on top!! I don't !! Re: audacity version

Q: Do I need to update to version 3? If so, what are the advantages? 1.2.6 is fairly old now - and despite the "Unstable" labelling on this forum 1.3.7 is pretty mature and stable now. I have only used 1.3 for a while now both for LP/tape digitization and FM broadcast capture. A couple of...

Re: Bug in "timer record"

Yup I've had similar (and reported it) - for me it normally happens when the recording time straddles the midnight hour. What I have done is to use the Windows Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) to force Audacity to abort. Then restart Audacity - the crash recovery tools are MUCH better in 1.3 than 1.2 ...

Re: Mixing distortion!

So, I should ask them to record and save their lines as WAV files? That seems to be the next best thing to recording it live and saving it as a WAV file. Yup, you should be working with WAVs in your production enviroments - as WAV files are lossless. MP3 and other similar comressed formats are deli...

Re: downgrading from 1.3.8 to 1.3.7?

I just saw this post from Gale, which implies that under at least some circumstances you can have 1.3.7 and 1.3.8 installed at the same time - Allen Certainly works on my Windows XP machines - where I have both 1.3.6 and 1.3.7 (and even 1.3.5 and 1.2.6) all installed. They are carefully installed i...

Re: Unable to import?

Audacity doesn't support this file type - you can import WAV, Mp3 and Ogg - you will need to find a converter (Super by erightsoft is often recommended IIRC) to convert your file to one of these formats - and then import the converted file.

Re: cassette warble

You have what is known as wow&flutter - see this wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow_(recording) This will be extremely difficult (verging on the impossible) to correct with Audacity - somebody correct me if I am wrong in this assessment. A frther dig in Wikipedia shows that ther...

Re: downgrading from 1.3.8 to 1.3.7?

This is interesting... I just tried re-installing (properly) and I find I only get the "English?" message if I also trash my 1.2.5 preferences. I thought the two weren't supposed to interfere with each other at all? --Allen My understanding (which is based on Windows and not MAC) is that ...
