Re: How important is it to have the level meter peaking at z
As Koz says, you don't want to near the zero otherwise clipping occurs immediately. In this respect digital recording is unlike old analog tape recording, where the physics of the mag tape enabled brief excursions into the "red" without damage to the sound. BTW you can get a better view of...

Re: Audacity 1.3.7 export problem
I seem to rememer a posting a while back from Gale Andrews (one of the developers) pointing out this bug in 1.3 - but I thought they had fixed it by 1.3.7 .... A workaround for you would be to export as WAV and then find a standalone WAV to MP3 converter (a google of t'interweb should probably yield...

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING
You obviously plugged in a USB device - as they say "they all do that sir" (foxed me too when I first plugged in my USB turntable).
Glad you got it sorted,

Re: recording from att uverse
Unlikely - since the output is via RCA. Just get an RCA pair yo 3.5mm stereo TRS minijack - and plug into the line-in on your computer. Mic inputs handle v. low signal levels - so if you plu into the mic in you could well orload it and possibly toast your onboard soundcard !

Re: recording from att uverse
If your box has an RCA output pair which delivers analog line-level inpt than it should be ok to connect to the line-in on your computer.
Situations where you need a pre-amp are recorde decks (where you need to step up the output a bit and to apply the RIAA equalisation) and some mics.

Re: Missing Timer Record in Tracks Menu
Dear waxcylinder, Another question follows: Can I use timer record to awaken the computer from any low power mode e.g. sleep? Don't know the answer to this one as the PC that I use for timed recording doesn't hibernate (just the screen) - so I'd suggest doing a little test experiment - and I'd be i...

Re: Can't get started
Sandy, A good start would be a read of this article from the Wiki: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Transferring_tapes_and_records_to_computer_or_CD And I would try to avoid buying one of the "fashionable" USB turntables - as Koz frequently points out, moost of them are made to...

Re: Missing Timer Record in Tracks Menu
Colin, this is one of the downsides of using Beta software - you do get all the nice new features, but stuff is subject to change (see the extracy from the Audacity Wiki below. Beta version Audacity 1.3 Beta is our new, not quite finished, development version which will be the basis of our next &quo...

Re: Cannot record to CD
To burn a CD you will need to export as 16-bit PCM Stereo WAV (this is the Red Book standard for CDs). See this article in the Wiki: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_burn_CDs and this one: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Transferring_tapes_and_records_to_computer_or_C...

The developers (sensibly IMHO) have moved it to the Transport dropdown - or you can use the keyboard shortcut SHIFT+T
