Russ, I have just done some experimenting and agree with your results - but not your conclusion. I do not believe that it is erroneous behaviour - AND I have made a major learning. You could try converting the sound clip to a format that Audacity can work with - I would suggest WAV. A converter that gets mentioned a lot is Super (which come from eRightSoft IIRC)

How long are these empty tracks tou get with export multiple? It is posiible to create a second label at exactly the same point as an existing label (and you won't be able to see it!) - this is known to produce empty tracks.

Sounds like it could be loose plugs or poor connections somewher in the audio chain. Give 'em all a gentlle wiggle, or replug them (and clean the connectors).

Can you plug the Optimus Lab-1100 into your hi-fi pre-amp / mini-system /boombox ? If so, and you then play the LP, does it still sound "noisy" ?

And using the mouse for everyting means you are more likely to give yoursef RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) in your mouse hand - so it's best to vary your hand movements to avoid that.
