Re: help please
Are you passing the signal though a pre-amp which has a phono stage? This is needed for the RIAA equalization to be applied. Without this the music has a tendency to sound thin, bass-less and tinny. When vinyl is mastered RIAA pre-amphasis is applied to prevent the neeedly travelling too far and jum...

Re: ID3 version in Audacity Beta
IIRC it is ID3v2 - and you are right AFAIK it is not resettable in 1.3.x You may need to find an external converter package which will give you more control over settings than the Audacity plugin - export from Audacity as WAVs and pass these through the converter. You should be able to find a free o...

Re: HELP! - SOUND DISTORTION WHEN RECORDING CASSETTE TAPES
The gadget supplied with the Roxio is an external USB soundcard - we haven't heard much about this particular make on the forum . There is a review page on other external soundcards - see: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477 As you can see from the reviews I personally use th...

Re: Best CD Burner?
if I play WAVS on my computer using Winamp for example, do I ruin the quality of the file everytime I play it or will it be forever the same because its lossless? No, the file WAV will stay the same (unlike playing a vinyl record or a tape which changes, minutely normally, with each play due to the...

Re: Desktop enhancement
Upgrade to 1.3.x In 1.2.x some of the Preferences settings are not saved - this is fixed in 1.3. where a different repository for Preferences setting is used. And in 1.3 there are separate Audacity Preferences settings for each unique user (separate logins) - rather than the central one for all user...

Re: Help function doesn't work on the tool bar
The Wiki new 1.3.8 features page http://audacityteam.org/download/features-1.3-a only says that help files are available for Windows and MAc users, no mention of Linux "Draft Manual/Quick Help included in Windows and Mac installers "

Re: skipping during recording
Do you have other (large, hungry) applications running while you are recording? Are you conneceted to t'interweb - are your receiving s/w updates? Virus checking could be interfering. Are you recording to an extrenal USB disk rather than an internal hard drive? If so the USB disk is likely not to be...

Re: All sound recorded with static :(
Celice, In the bottom left hand coirner of the Realtek dialog box you posted there is a big round knob - you have it set all the way round to the right i.e. maxed out at "11" like Spinal Tap - this is why you are getting clipping. Try turning it down a bit - click and drag on it with your ...

Re: All options are showing up in Greek...
To change the language use: Edit>Preferences - Edit is the second command in from top left, then Preferences is the bottom selection in the drop-down list. Then you need the Interface tab, which is the third one in from the right. Language is selected from the only drop-down list in the dialogue box...
