Re: Recorded quality does match direct playback
I would suspect the soundcard - or the leads/plugs. I too use a Nakamichi (BX2 - professionally serviced before I started tape transcription). I run it into an Edirol UA-1EX into the USB port on my Dell desktop running Windows XP-HE-SP3. All tapes were TDK-SA and were recorded with no Dolby. Audacit...

Re: silence after 16seconds
At UK£60-70 (and falling ... ) for a 1TB disk it shouldn't be an issue - much cheaper than losing valuable work IMHObillw58 wrote: Agreed, as long as the production department is willing to pay for the multiple terabyte drives needed!![]()

Re: Noob...Tempo Not Behaving properly
Ian, I think that Koz was trying to be sarky ;) - not that he's known for that - it's normally curmudgeonly with him (he even lists that as his profession in his profile!). Glad you got it working anyway. Which external soundcard did you end up buying? Maybe you could add a review of it to this stic...

Re: sound on laptop not working
1) using a USB device, like you have, hi-jacks the entire sound services - output as well as input. So to need to reset Audacity (via Preferences) and Windows (via the Control Panel) to target your onboard soundcard fot the output device. 2) I would download 1.3.9 and try that. But this skipping nor...
Re: export
No, it is still there in the beta vns. As I said in my previous post: In 1.3.x to change the bitrate - on Exporting you will see an Options button in the Export dialog box. Just select the bitrate that you require. The Options button is at the bottom right hand corner of the Export dialog box WC

Re: recording halfway through a track
In Audacity 1.3.9 you should be able to place the cursor at the place that you want to start, then press record. Audacity will create a new track(s) for the recording. Cute, a useful feature - this is me writing this down. If you select a region of an existing track before you hit the record button...

Re: Play Time vs Bit Rate vs File Size
If my player in the home/car can play the MUCH higher rate a professional CD is recorded at, then why wouldn't it be able to play the much lower rate that I can record on an MP3 - WITH more time on the CD? Maybe the encoding method? Well yes, it's because on a professional CD or a music CD that you...

Re: Play Time vs Bit Rate vs File Size
Is it a matter of "you only have 80 minutes per CD" no matter what the bitrate/filesize is? Basically yes - whenyou burn a music CD (as opposed t a data CD) you need to provide 44.1kHz 16-bit PCM stereo with a maximum of 74 minutes (or 80 minutes for later CD-Rs) - This is the Red Book st...
Re: export
The 128 is not a speed, but rather the birate (or the amount of data that is used to store the audio). The higher the bitraye, the higher the quality - but note that the MP3 file also gets accordingly bigger. In 1.3.x to change the bitrate - on Exporting you will see an Options button in the Export ...

Re: Import WAV problem
Not reproducible with 1.3.9 on Windows XP-HE-SP3 - the import works fine in the "safer" copy in mode - so this could be a just a MAC problem. Any Unix/Linux users out there who can test this? BTW in using the workaround "faster" option where the audio clip is just referenced and ...
