Re: How to amplify without clipping

When the new Bentley is delivered I'll happily go back to the original uncompressed recordings, but while I'm still tootling around in the old Morgan Aero I do rather appreciate the benefits of a little subtle dynamic compression. With a Lotus Elise it's hardly worth turning on the radio at all - u...

Re: Dividing my mix in to tracks

See: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Splitting_recordings_into_separate_tracks This will enable you to create a set of WAV or MP3 files one per track. The next problem comes when you either load the MP3 file into your portable music player, where nor, mally the player will try to insert ...

Re: How to amplify without clipping

And from re-reading your thread - I'm pretty sure that you want Effect > Amplify and not any type of compressor. You would typically use a compressor where you are recording for playback in a noisy environment like a car - it makes the quiet bits louder and the loud bits quieter, so you don't have t...

Re: How to amplify without clipping

How loud is a cassette tape? It's completely silent until you play it. Yes and no ... The taped recording does have greater or lesser energy levels recoded into it - which affects the "loudness" - not visible on a tape. Similarly with a vinyl record - but here you can actually see the lou...

Re: when amplifying, does recording degrade?

plain, are you sure that you have your cartridge aligned correctly? My cartridge came with a protractor to mount on the TT to set the horizontal alignment correctly - anf for the vertical alignment I us a small thin mirror on the TT mat (lowerg the stylus onto the mirror very gently and very careful...

Irish,

several of the 78 RIAA curves are already available in the Equalization effect - have you seen those?

Re: How to edit mp3 tracks from my itunes library

One side note -- I found out that when I brought the edited tracks back into my itunes library -- i.e., opened them with itunes or used the "add file to librray" function -- I had to then "create an mp3 version" in order to save them. I hope the sound quality isn't being further...

Re: Dissapearing Audio

A favorite but all too common problem is including music from a Music CD in your show. Remove the CD and the show falls over in the dirt. The AUP file's job is to point to the music at the right time, not actually copy it into the show. Unless, that is, you have changed the default setting in Prefe...

Re: Reverse RIAA curve

Plus my vote then - I recall several times in the past few years when I have responded to folk who are (or planning to) transcribe 78s - telling what to do would be much easier with a reverse-RIAA. OFF-TOPIC - Sady I am not one of those who has 78s to transcribe. I used to have a reasonable collecti...
