Re: recording

Glad you got it working wombil. Another point to be aware of is that as you now have 1.2 installeed, and therefore yoyr preferences are set in the registry. When you later upgrade either to the latest Beta 1.3.x (pretty stable now) or to the soon-to-be-released "stable" v2.0 then the prefe...

Re: V1.3.9 playback hangs on quiet passages

Your posting rings a bell ...

Have you, by any chance, got Sound Activated Recording enabled?

Go to Edit > Preferences > Recording and if that option is checked, just un-check it.

Re: recording

What I would suggest trying is to reset your preferences - there are some instructions here in the Wiki for how to do this: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Audacity_Preferences#Resetting_Preferences_to_defaults_2 Note that in 1.2.x your preferences are stored in the Windows Registry - w...

If you look at the vertical scale on the track, it is showing "dB"
This is the "Waveform (dB)" view of the track.

Re: why do the waveforms I'm recording look like this...?

M-audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard. I seem to remember seeing other posts which said that M-Audio usually uses ASIO drivers, which Audacity doesn't support. Could this be the problem? PO'L Could be - see this thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=13276&p=50978&hilit=...

Re: why do the waveforms I'm recording look like this...?

Koz, From L-P's description of their setup it doedsn't look like a USB setup at all : The Tecnics SL-D2 is a direct drive conventional TT (looks like it may be a cheaper copy of the SL1200 that Technics produced). L-P is feeding this to phono pre-amp and thence on to a (an upgrade?) on-board soundca...

Re: Overly Large Database on Windows

... I still don't understand why 35 minute project file is 4-5 times as large as another that is the same length and captured with exactly the same parameters. Norm, it may just be down to the amount of editing that you have been doing on the two different projects. What happens if you export them ...

Re: Changing speed of recording, using previous recordings

For transcribing 78's you really need a special stylus (needle). A "normal" stylus will bottom out in the larger grooves on a 78. Check the cartridge that came with the Ion to see if there is a 78 rpm stylus available. And if you don't use a special; stylus designed for 78s thaen you are ...

Re: Opening large MP3 file

If all you want to do is to split it up with no further editing, then there are simpler tools better suited to the task.

Try a quick surf of t'Interweb for MP3 editors - IIRC there is one called MP3-Cut or MP3-Split or something suchlike.

Re: Can I Record On The Fly?

There was reputed to be one developer who managed a very large, multi-hour recording, but some very special provisions had to be made. For one thing, the machine certainly can't be doing anything else, and there's a better than even chance he wasn't in Windows. Cm'on Koz - even Windows will handle ...
