Yup - documentation is wonderful stuff ... ;)

Glad you got it working.

You may find this page useful too - especially the link to the manual: http://audacityteam.org/help/documentation

that's because Audacity is not creating .tmp files - it's creating .aup files which manage projects and a LOT of little .au files which are little sound segments (Done this way to improve processing speed).

Re: Disk space clean up

... please tell me where your putting these temp files, how I can delete those tmp files. Audacity is putting your temp files where you told it to in you preferences when you installed and configured Audacity. Go to Edit>Preferences>Drectories to see the locationthat was set. You may find that thes...

Re: I'm doing all the right things . . .

If there is a "checklist" on this website for recording with Line-in, please let me know, and I will follow its instructions to the letter. Not on this forum AFAIK - but try this page from the Audacity wiki: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Transferring_tapes_and_records_to_co...

Re: Recording 33 1/3 LPs at 78 RPM

One of the other elves got one and was so disappointed with the playback he put it in the garage and dug out his old conventional turntable and brought it back to top operation to do his transfers. Actually ..... he managed to sell it to one of his friends who is less fussy about audio quality and ...

Re: External Interface compatibility

FYI, the PC is running XP Home SP3 and my Audacity is 1.2.4 Firstly 1.2.4 is absolutely ancient now - 1.2.6 is the latest "stable" version (which itself is ancient). The 1.3.9 available beta is now pretty stable (and later 1.3s are approaching a 2.0 release) I might be inclined to upgrade...

Re: recording length?

Yes provided that you have enough disk space - and providing the processor is fast enough to handle realtime digital audio capture (no problem for modern PCs). Personally I would be using 1.3.9 rather than 1.2. In spite of the beta labelling, i.3.x is pretty stable now (approaching a release soon) -...

Re: Recording 33 1/3 LPs at 78 RPM

Could you elaborate on the loss of fidelity when recording this way (high speed). Is it caused by the high speed recording or by the later software speed reduction? Aahh ...that's the bit that's beyond my "pay-grade" in terms of technical expertise. So I don't intend to make a fool of mys...
