Re: Use Audacity as dj software
You could try iTunes - it's really a juke-box "thingy" rather than a DJ "thingy" ;) but it does have playlists and you can set the crossfades. And best of all, just like Audacity, it's available for free :) Apple work on the basis that you're likely to buy an iPod if you get iTun...

Re: .Au file repair
For future use upgrade to 1.3.11 - in 1.3 the recovery tools are automatic on restarting Audacity after a crash.
You can get 1.3 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/features-1.3-a

Re: Corrrect processing order for 78s recorded at 45
I have an answer to this problem. I have used Windows Movie Maker for quite a while making slide shows to vintage jazz from my 78 rpm collection (for YouTube upload). In my case the original music is monophonic, but for some reason WMM cannot handle a mono audio track without the distortion. This i...

Re: Corrrect processing order for 78s recorded at 45
I use ClickRepair extensively - weel worth the $40 IMHO -see this thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1994 I experimented with Brian's NoiseRemoval tool for an older LP that I had of even older blues recordings - they were obviously trnascriptions from various 78s and the ...

Re: Average loudness and compression
The compressor that gets recommended most often on this forum is Chris's Compressor - I don't use it so I can't give you the link - just try the Search function at the top right of the forum page.

Re: cant export multiple mp3s
Personally, I find that exporting as WAV, importing the WAVs into iTunes then letting iTunes do the conversion to MP3 is faster. You can delete the WAVs after iTunes has converted them. I do similar to Bill - but I use iTunes to convert my WAVs to Apple's AAC format. AAC is generally reckoned to gi...

Re: WMA to MP3
Try Googling "WMA to MP3" - you will find several converters.
Audacity is not a good tool for just simple conversion - it is a multi-track recording and editing package.

Re: Mixer input volume slider has no effect
It is quite likely that a recently bought re-mastered CD will sound louder - Record cos. and their recording engineers have been working at doing this for a while - it's generally referred to as the "loudness wars" - see this Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war It ...
