Select the audio - use CTRL+A to select the whole project - and then use Effect > Amplify

If all you're doing is splitting MP3 files then there are much better tools than Audacity - you just need a simple MP3 cutter/splitter - MP3Cut and MP3Split are both names that have been mentioned on the forum. Unfortunately when I select the Analyze Menu I do not have the choice of interval labels. 1.3.x had this added as a new feature - so to use regular interval labels you will need to upgrade to 1.3. You will benefit from this greatly as 1.3 has many improvements of the now ancient 1.2. You can get 1....

Which version of Audacity are you using? There was an Export bug in 1.3.10 which is fixed in the latest Beta 1.3.12

Import the recording into Audacity. Then click on the little black downward pointing triangle in the Track Control Box at the left of the track. Use the Set Rate option to change the track to 44100 Hz

Create a label at your break point - place your cursor and use CTRL+B . When playing in Audacity you can TAB from lable to label, provided focus is on the label and label track.
