Don't know if it works in 1.2 - but certainly in 1.3 you can click your cursor at any point in the visible timeline (above the audio track) and the pay psotion will move to there.

Actually I amplify normally to -1.0 and no that does not cause clipping. I export the WAVs to iTunes and convert to AAC at 256VBR and does not produce clipping.

All the released 1.3.x versions are Beta - I cant rember exactly but I think it was around 1.3.10 the non-selectiing behaviour was introduce. It is definitely fixed the latest Beta 1.3.12 (and the latest Alpha 1.3.13).

I can't visualise it. Was the selection region inching across the screen? Or nothing was happening and then suddenly you got the requested selection after several minutes? Were you seeing "non-responding" in the Audacity Title Bar and Taskbar button? Had this project been idle for a long ...
