With high treble and no baas - it sounds likely that you are not using a phono preamp (which you need otherwise the necessary RIAA equalization will not be done).

Does your Soundlab TT have a built in pre-amp? Or do you have an external pre-amp/amp?

So is this new computer a laptop by any chance. If so does it actually have a line-in? Many laptops only have a mic-in these days.
