Re: exporting

Since you ae using iTunes on a MAC I would recommend that you consider using Apple's AAC compressed format rather than MP3. Bitrate for bitrate (and size for size AAC is generally reckoned to give better audio quality than MP3. You may find this workflow from the manual useful (it's one of the set t...

Re: Defining Songs.

Now it is beginning to make sense. The key is I have to export the individual tracks over to iTunes or into WAV files for export? I guess I do have a lot of work. mixpix, You may finfd this workflow tutorial that I wrote for the manual useful: http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Sample_w...

Re: Sonos best file/codec

rorser, I am only a partial Apple user - in that I use XP on my PCs but use iTunes and a couple of iPods. The iTunes implementation onWindows works very well (an inspired move by Apple to broaden the iPod user base to PC users). I now only use the Apple AAC compressed format - I use 256 bitrate for ...

Re: Sonos best file/codec

The best may be whatever the Sonos supports - and I don't know this device. What does the manual say? WAV files are lossless (also AIFF) and therfeore give the best Audio quality - but they ae very large files. MP3 compressed filews are much smaller - I wouldn't go lower than a bitrate of 128 (but p...

Re: Want to digitize 2 records at the same time using 1 lapt

Just why are you trying to do this? If it is to blend the two Lps then you can record each separately with Audacity, each on its own stero track both starting at time zero and then mix the two tracks together. You can control the amplitude of parts of each track with the envelope tool if required. WC

Re: Frustrating recording problems after reformatting to XP

Just a point. Why did you go down to XP instead of up to Win7? I would have had serious second thoughts about going down because it's possible the hardware and drivers only work with Vista. As you're finding out, the performance of the sound card is terrible compared with the more advanced operatin...

Re: portion of sounds missing

Audacity should be a fine tool for your application - I have used 1.2 and 1.3 to convert hundreds of LPs and tapes to digibits with excellent results. It is possible that you problem may be with Vista and/or with the Visat drivers for your soundcard - I would (and do) prefer to do this work with XP....

Re: Digital "jukebox" to feed the analog stereo?

Sorry, coming into this thread a bit late, just got back from holiday/vacation ... I have used the iPod route for this (using a JBL dock for kitchen use and a plug into the back of my pre-amp for hi-fi usage) - I have a 160gb iPod and currently it is populated with mainly AACs (and a few MP3s) at bi...

Re: My projects will not open

I use Audacity a lot for transcribing LPs - and I never bother to Save an Audacity project in the process. Instead I record one side of an LP do all the processing I need, including setting up a label track to identify the song/track breaks - and then I just use the Export Multipe to export a set of...
