Re: usb audio codec not showing

Do you have your turntable turned on and the USB connector plugged in to the PC before firing up Audacity? Failure to that is the commonest cause of a USB device not being recognized. And what does it say in the Windows Control Panel under Sounds and Audio Devices on the Audio tab - does Windows see...

Re: Muting internal speaker while recording

Ah, so you are recording the sound playing on the computer and not sending in an external signal - so, yes you are right the slider in Audacity will turn down the Windows setting too - so you are probably scuppered. My deskstop has two places to plug in headphones or external speakers - one in the a...

Re: *PLEASE help exporting problem-creating large files

With Windows-7 you really should be using the latest Beta 1.3.12 - you can get it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Can you try the same test under 1.3.12 on W7 and then report back, thanks.

Re: Muting internal speaker while recording

If you are not using a USB audio device (i.e.) of you are going from your FM tuner/amp/radio to the radio then you should just be able to use the Audacity output slider (icon is a little speaker) to turn the output volume down - if you are using a USB device then this control is likely to be inopera...

Re: how do I merge multiple mp3's into one?

You can use Audacity to do this, but it's probably not the best tool for the job. The problem is that when you import the MP3s into Audacity they are converted into Audacity's own internal uncompressed format - and note that this will not remove the compression damege caused in the cration of the or...

Re: usb audio codec not showing

So where exactly are you stuck in the process? And what is this "Audacity booklet" that you talk about? I would recommend upgrading to 1.3 Audacity - the latest version is 1.3.12 and is probably the best Audacity yet. Don't be frightened off by the Beta labelling - 1.3 is now a pretty matu...

Re: Using XP here, but..

IMHO 1.3.12 is the best Audacity ever. I use it on both my XP machines (XP-HE on the desktop and XP-PRO on the laptop) and both work fine.

It has a lot more features than the ancient 1.2 series - and on most modern platforms is more stable than 1.2.x

Re: Export Multiple should ignore point labels

a big -1 for this suggestion.

I use point labels all the time to break up my LP transcriptions - I find them much easier to work with than the range labels.

Re: Variable trouble exporting to AIFF and playing back

The original term comes from WWII and was spelled FUBAR, with the UBAR meaining "up beyond all recognition." The computer Manufacturer DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) also used the the FUBAR acronyn to denote the error condition "Failed UniBus Address Register" - I'm pretty ...

Re: How to burn/record

Rodalco, you don't need the tape stage of the process. If you can plug your reel-to-reel into your computer and record ok, then you should also be able to plug the outputs of your CD player into your PC and record directly into Audacity. The extra step will the tape will only introduce noise into th...
