Audacity Forum

1) select the silence (using click&drag)
2) Ctrl + K to delete it
3) Select a small amount of audio either side of the deletion
4) Effect > Crossfade Clips

You might want to drop a temporary label after the deletion to aid the step 3 selection - use Ctrl + B

I assume that on Mac you will have downloaded and installed using the DMG, right? In which case you will already have the Manual installed with Audacity. This was fixed in 2.4.2 current release for both Linux an Windows - it still does not work on Mac (we have a bug logged for that).
