If you just saw the sheer volume of dross we have to clear away, day in day out all hours of the day, just to keep this forum clean and tidy then your Spammometer would probably be registering red too ;) And apologi...

Re: Audacity interface naming question.

Gale, Many thanks for your thoughtful feedback - much appreciated as always. And thanks too for the text trimming I agree that helps. <<<Structurally it seems kind of odd - you have Foundations, Advanced issues then go "back" in perceived difficulty to more basic tutorials.>>> Actually you...

Re: MME or Windows DirectSound

Personaly I use WDS it works well for me (on XP-HE & XP-PRO).

I don't know what the differences are but I seem to remember that I made this choice based on a forum or email discussion that Gale Andrews had with me.

Re: track length info

i've found my own answer. DO NOT EXPORT FILES AS WAV!!! WAV does not support metadata editing. i re-exported as mp3 and now everything works and looks as it should. mp3 is somewhat lossy but is fine for WMP listening. If you export MP3 at 320kbps bitrate then you are extremely unlikely to be able t...

Re: Line in Overload

The image immediately above shows clearly that you have what is known as "DC Offset" in your recorded signal (the waveform is not centred on zero). This is normally caused by a faulty soundcard. You can use Audacity to correct this though. Immediately after capture, select the whole projec...

Re: where is my recorded data after program crash?

Even with the current 1.3.12 Recovery can often take place with some missing/orphaned mini-files. I usually check the box that says "Work around ... silently" rather than getting them deleted. I understand that recovery has been further improved in the Alpha 1.3.13 version - so the next Be...

Re: Audacity interface naming question.

Do you still want me to put a link to the Forum in the Manual? I think we need a link, but I'm not sure if it should be in the Sidebar - if it is, it has implications for the offline manual that is included in the downloads. There already is one Gale :) It is on this page: http://manual.audacitytea...

Re: Audacity interface naming question.

Hi Gale, thanks for your comments. I hope to be able to change your mind and get you to support this proposed change. <<<On the whole I would prefer to improve visibility and contents of the "New users may want to look at" panel.>>> I disagree with this for a couple of key reasons: 1) I be...

Re: where is my recorded data after program crash?

1.2 is not very good at recovery. This is much improved in 1.3 and I would urge you to upgrade to 1.3.12 for future work.

See this page in the Wiki for the method to manually recover your project: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/CrashRecovery

Be warned that this is not always successful.
