You can't expanf the Track Control Panel sideways only up and down.
To see more of the trackname click on it and select "Name ..." from the drop down

You can export a WAV or set of WAVs an import those into your 1.2
But otherwise no you can't open 1.3 projects in 1.2 (as you have found already).
