Re: USB input?

Do you mean the same maximum level - or the same perceived loudness - I expect the second of the two is what you friend wants. In which case you can use Chris's Compressor to even the perceived loudness out (see this thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=28276&p=79867&am...

Re: Reel to reel conversion - old equipment

I wish I could say the same for the Stella tape recorder. One problem is I live in a country district (Dorset) and over time I’ve found that we have very few service shops clued up on aspects of these skills. I managed to record from AC for example with help online but no-one locally had anything t...

Re: USB input?

And these songs ar in which format? We thrive on detail.

If they are WAV or MP3 (or even AAC/MP4 with 1.3 Audacity) then you should just be able to open Audacity and then import the audio files.
Personally I would copy the files from the USB stick to my hard drive before working with them.

Re: No sound on playback (Windows XP)

mumzy, I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn't read your post thoroughly enough... Why on earth are you going the trouble of going from vinyl to tape and then recording into Audacity from the tape ? Or is there a good reason that I am missing :? For a start you will get signal degradation with the int...

Have you made these sttings both in the Windows Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio as well as in Auda...

Re: Keeping files on itunes

Good point Bill - I'd totally forgotten about that (in my defence - it's been a fair while since I set up my iTunes libraries). IIRC that's the iTunes default setting - if so then it's a dangerous default IMHO (a bit like the import settings in Audacity).

Re: Crash at import, freeze at save....

I'm an XP person and have no experience of W7 - but reading your post the one thing that rings alarm bells for me is your mention of a 6 hour MP3. Now this is a huge chunk of audio to be working on as a single audio file - is there any good reason why you are working with such large files/projects? WC

Re: Audacity interface naming question.

Still confused about Gale's concept of adding an image I think this stems from an e-discussion we had somewhere a long while ago now. I, jokingly, suggested an image of a teacher (with blackboard) as a graphic to go with the Tutorials - I wish I'd never mentioned it. -1 for adding an image Peter.
