Audacity Manual Front page improvements

We have recently done some work (hopefully) improving the Front Page of the Audacity Manual for Version 1.3/2.0 - see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Main_Page. The original discussion thread that prompted and developed this remains on the forum- for background see: http://forum.audacityteam.org...

Re: Audacity interface naming question.

Gale, Thanks for implementing this interim version: 1) I changed my mind about an image after the e-discussion that we had when the proposal was made. I prefer not to have an image, I believe that it would add visual clutter. 2) I really like the "More Help ..." change Please see my discus...

Re: two tracks playings at same time help split

If you are sure that you have exported the first recording (hopefully to a lossless format like WAV) then you can just delete the first recording from the project by clicking in the little x at the top left of the Track Control Panel to the left of the track. If you want to keep both in the same pro...

Re: Noise after several minutes recording

Some laptop owners find that they have to turn off mains power an run on the battery to get a clean signal. My Dell Vostro is fine on mains power though.

Re: CD audio players won't read ID tags

No, what Bill said was that CDs normally do not support metadata text - the Red Book standard for CDs has no provision for metadata. However to address your second point about online databases, I found that when I was burning CDs of my digitized LPs and then ripping thme into iTunes that i had aroun...

Re: How to change Win 7 default volume when ripping LPs?

Can I use the microphone jack as input for the turntable?? In most cases no, absolutely not. The mic-in is expecting a much lower level signal than your TT will supply. You will get distortion - and may well damage your soundcard. However there are some (not many) PCs that have a single input for m...

Re: Noise after several minutes recording

Start off with a read of this set of tutorials from the 1.3 manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tutorial_-_Copying_tapes,_LPs_or_minidiscs_to_CD I hope that you are using a phono preamp in your recording chain - you need it for the necessary RIAA equalization to be applied to the signal from ...

Re: Nearly all menu options disabled?

You are almost certainly in Pause mode. You need to be in Stop mode for the menu options to become available.

WC

UPDATE: you are in Pause mode - the little green downward pointing triangular cursor in the timeline would not be there if you were in Stop mode.

Re: What is the best HQ settings for saving LPs

By the way, is the nero AAC codec better than iTunes? Is it worth the bother to go that extra mile? Claes, I actually haven't compared the two - and I only have Nero on one of my PCs (as Nero insists on one license per PC that you own - rather than a use-0based licening strategy). And anyway I have...

Re: Getting recording levels set

That looks like a serious fault with your soundcard. You have what is known as "DC offset" - where DC is being added to the signal. The visual indication is that the waveform is not centred on the zero line. You can correct for this in software in Audacity - immediately after capture, use ...
