Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats
i know, but that ipod touch got me stuck to have stuff in proprietary formats I sympathize. Perhaps MP3 would be a better choice - it's still not an open format, but it is widely supported. iPods and iTunes will happily support MP3s - my iTunes library and my iPods have MP3s and AACs happily co-exi...

Re: Spliting Songs from an LP recording
Keith, the other tool that Bill and I both use dor "cleaning" LP transcriptions is a piec iof software called ClicRepair - it costs a little ($40 when I last looked, but is well worth it IMHO - see this sticky thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1994 With c. 1,00...

Re: Import difficulty
I would recommend that you rip a WAV file from the CD with iTunes (you can modify your iTunes import settings to do this). WAV is an uncompressed format and will give you much better audio quality.

Re: Converting cassette tapes to audio CD
I've marked the end of a song group, about five minutes of recording, using CTRL-B. It put a red flag at the spot. Then I realize the marked ending isn't quite at the right place, so I want to change its position. I want to erase the flag. How? This tells me that you have not taken my earlier advic...

Re: LAME error message help
For 78's you may find this tutorial in the 1.3 manual useful: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Reco ... pm_records
I would recommend you to upgrade to the latest Audacity 1.3.12 - you should find it alot better than the now ancient 1.2 series: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Re: Automatically order tracks one after the other?
AFAIK you can't do that automatically - I seem to remnber that there is a Feature Request for an "Import Append" which will do what you want.
If I can re-find that FR would you like me to add your vote for it?

Re: Converting cassette tapes to audio CD
I've downloaded and printed out the manuals, but they dwell too much on what one CAN do, not HOW to do it. That's alway's been the problem with software manuals (and for many hardware manauls too - like the one for my digital camera). Like most software manuals the Audacity ones are written to docu...
