Re: Audacity 1.2.6

The volume on the UCA-202 seems to be redundant and is being bypassed. AFAIK the volume control on the UCA-202 is to control the output level to the headphone socket for hardware monitoring of the signal. There are several UCA-202 users on the forum, so they may comment further. The more expensive ...

Re: Audacity 1.2.6

Mark, you should aim to be setting the recoprding level so that the waveform doesn;t do above about halfway in its window - or -6.0 dB, depending on which waveform view you use. I normally work with Linear voew on my wabform but dB scale on my meters. Tip: you can expand the size of the metering too...

Re: Audiocassette decks--which model should I use?

What are the opinions about capturing at a Very High data rate and downsampling to a Music CD if needed. 44100, 16-bit, Stereo is just OK, not excellent. There are lots of opinions on this on the various audiophile sites on t'interweb. Most serious archivists work at much higher quality than the CD...

Re: noise/static removal

Justin, Brian is an Australian university mathematician, now retired. When he started digitizing his LPs some years aho he started out locating the clicks by ear and eye and repairing them menually (very tedious, as I'm sure you'll realize). He thought to himself "I shouuld be able to write a l...

Re: Flipping stereo channels?

Audacity has very polite users. I really was expecting someone to say, "Hey, DUDE! Put your headphones on backwards!" Which is what I was doing, but I felt bad doing it. We try, we try - we also remove the impolite/irrelevant posts and often the impolite poster too! We like this as a cozy...

Re: Realtek won't accept USB?

As Steve says - but it is possible to use both sound cards.

I use my external USB sound card as the input device, but target the output for monitoring onto the PC's onboard soundcard.

Re: Audiocassette decks--which model should I use?

Thanks again, Koz. If you don't mind, I have another question. I'm also about to start converting my LPs to digital files. I own a Yamaha YP-B2 belt-drive turntable with a Shure V15 RS cartridge, and I recently acquired a JVC QL-A2 direct-drive turntable with an Ortofon FF15XE MK II cartridge. I ha...

Re: Audiocassette decks--which model should I use?

alex, Nak certainly did make excellent decks, I run a Nak BX-2 and it has always produced excellent results (on TDK-SA tape which it was set up for, emphasizing Koz' points there). Before I used it for my transcriptions I did have it professionally serviced, as like you I had a fair few irreplaceabl...
