Re: Final CD levels Too Low
I would use the amplify rther than the normalize (unless your recording chain is unbalanced L-R) - see http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Amplify_and_Normalize.
I amplify to -2.0dB as my final production step prior to exporting.

You'll need to get them back to exactly the same location, with folders and files named as they were before. You can stop this happening in future by setting your import preferences to "safer" rather than "faster" - In 1.2.x go to Edit>Preferences>File Formats In 1.2 and all earl...

Have a look at this page from the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects And do your...

Re: Amplitude above zero when starting
It looks to me as though you have a bad case of DC-offset - usually a fault with your soundcard. You can use Audacity's Normalize coommand to remove this - do this as your first edit after capture and before any other editing - see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Normalize But you would probably...

This tutorial from the 1.3 manual should help you: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Reco ... turntables
Although it says "turntables" the tutorial also applies to recording from tape devices too.
