Re: Manually monitoring the track
If you click&drag in the timeline above the waveform display, Audacity should play the clip wnen you release the left mouse button. The other useful thing you can do with the time line is to click in it, if no audio is playing then playback will start from that point, if audio is already playing...

I use the Edirol UA-1EX, some of those are still available but it has been superseded by the Cakewalk UA-1G. When I do use the PCs onboard souncard (a SoundMax) to record...
Re: Tracks
Go have a look in your Audacity preferences in the Tracks section. There is a check-box in there that says "Automatically fit tracks vertically zoomed" - make sure that this is not checked on or turn it off if it is so.

Re: Is it possible to copy the selection start and end times
If you create a label at the selection you should be able to File > Export Labels ... to an Excel spredsheet which should give you the timings you require.

Re: Missing Audio Data Blockfile(s)
In 1.3 Audacity should auto-recover for you on start-up (unless you tell/told it not to). Trying to thread together all those files is hard work - in 1.3 they are not numbered randomly and not sequentially. For a straight capture it is usually best to sort them by date/time order - but I suspect you...

Re: Missing Audio Data Blockfile(s)
You have probably stumbled into the infamous Bug no. 137 (see http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137 it's a long read ... )-. It has proved a hard one for the developers to track down and is one of the two critical bugs that are preventing us from getting release 2.0 out the door. If y...
