Re: Converter for Sony microphone (ECM-MS957)

... the way Sony implemented the cables isn't quite so simple. The bottom of the microphone is an XLR5 Male, not XLR3 like a normal microphone, so the first thing you would need is an adapter to split out the Mid and Side into two XLR3s. Koz So is this the same "funny" cabling the same on...

Re: Can't hear audio

When a USB audio device is connected, Windows has a habit of automatically passing all sound to the USB device and thus disabling the normal sound card. Yes, so what you need to do is to keep the USB device as your input device (mic icon) in the Device Toolbar and set the output device (speaker ico...

Re: The importance of saving project files

It could be said that the Initial Capture before processing should be saved. That's a personal decision. And the compuslive archivists would probably be exporting a 32-bit floating WAV file of the raw capture rather than a 16-bit WAV :) It avoids throwing away any capture data but does take up twic...

Re: The importance of saving project files

Yes, but the crazy compulsive wants to make backup copies of your AIFF files. Audacity Projects are brittle and easily damaged and are intended for further production and processing. So they can go away. The perfect quality AIFF file however, should be backed up. Or WAV files instead of AIFF Person...

Re: Tape "blurs"

Are you by any chance using a bi-directional tape played which plays side B by reversing the direction oif transport so that you don't have to "bother" takinng the tape aout and turning it over?

If so then try playing side B by taking it out and using the forward play direction.

Re: Questions about labels and saving

You should be able to get the latest nightly Alpha build from Gale's site: http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/audacity.html or from the Wiki: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nightly_Builds I've been running various 1.3.14 Alphas over the past couple of months and they seem remarkably stable in daily us...

Re: Questions about labels and saving

... Either, (a) stereo matters, in which case you should normalize each channel individually (you can do that in SS, but I don't think you can do it in Audacity) ... Actually all versions of Audacity up to and including 1.3.13 the latest Beta do do precisely that. This changes from 1.3.14 (latest A...
