You can avoid Audacity using alias files altogther if you set you import preferences to always copy in the external audio data (the "safer" option).

1) Use Analyze > Regular Interval Labels... to place a label at every 10 seconds

2) Use Export > Multiple to export a set of files based on the labels

You do that by making sure that you download Audacity from our official site: http://audacityteam.org/download/

And I would recommend the 1.3.13 Beta - it is now a very mature Beta and far superior to the now very old 1.2 series which is no longer maintained/updated.

No help this time roxe, but I would suggest that the next time that you make a capture recording of an unrepeatable event (a radio broadcast say) then the first thing that you do after capture is to make a backup WAV copy. Then you can always return to (a copy of) that backup copy to start over with...
