Re: Can I set up two different Preferences sets?

There is no easy way to have more than one set of Preferences. The only way I know is to have two different logon user ids. The preferences (from 1.3 onwards) are stored per user. The downside for PGA would be having to log on and off as different users (I note that Windows (XP anyway) allows you t...

Re: Not recording

My wife's W7 laptop will not record streaming audio with Audacity - so based on an earler recommendation from Koz I got her to buy TotalRecorder (it cost $17.95) - she uses TR to capture and then uses Audacity for the rest of her processing. For TotalRecorder see here: http://www.highcriteria.com/ WC

Re: Quick an efficient way to record LP's

Normally you want 44.1 kHz 16-bit PCM stereo WAVs - this is (part of) the Red Book standard for CDs and it's a good format for loading into iTunes say for compression. The 32-bit WAV files will not play in a lot of players - you'd want potentially to keep 32-bit WAVs (probably from the original capt...

Re: Mono track to Stereo

It sounds like Audacity should have a separate DC offset effect as you say. But it also sounds like Normilisation should just be synonym for Amplification. I would logically call that effect "Normilisation and Amplification". It could have a default setting to normalise, but can still hav...

Re: Recording level too high & clipping even at 0 master vol

I don't think the UFO202 has a gain control to mange the signal level - there does appear to be a volume control on it, but my understanding is that that is there to control the output level to the headphone jack for hardware monitoring. Take a look at this sticky thread in the forum for USB soundca...

Re: Can I improve on what I already do?

Hi Ragnar, when I took my ESL's back to the QUAD factory (when it was still owned by QUAD) for a service they told me they had had to replace no panels as there was no sign of arcing. That was good news as I had bought them secondhand and given them pretty extensive use myself both on classical and ...

Re: AIFF Quality Loss When Exporting .au Files

First, let me calm any nerves and let me clarify. I was deleting .aup files - they were the various tries and retries that I longer wanted. Actually you do need to delete the au files too - or rather delete the folder asscociated with the aup file, this folder contains the soundfile segments for th...

Re: Can I improve on what I already do?

MP3 encoding also tends to add a little low frequency noise, though in this particular case it looks like there may be a little DC off-set causing that rise below 5 Hz. Well spotted Steve :ugeek: That is indeed the onboard SoundMax on my desktiop PC, the only one of the three soundcards that I used...
