I would suggest buying an external USB disk to take all the files that you don't use or need on a regular basis to free up space on your disk.
It is never good to run any computer with its disk nearly full - it's a recipe for disaster.

In which case would suspect a poor USB connection or bad USB cable.
You're plugging the device in via a USB hub are you? If so don't do that.
Triy unplugging and replugging the USB connectors and try a different USB connnector on your computer.

I started out with an ION iTT-USB turntable for my transcriptions - I soon junnked it because it gave far too much wow&flutter (probably down to the very lightweight plastic platter - the electronics were good though and it did at least have a volume control. I resurrected my old Technics SL-150...
