Re: Backing up and Archiving
Steve initiated this proposal in the Wiki for a "Unitary Project" last year: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Proposal_Unitary_Project The problem that Audacity projects can be perceived as "brittle" is that it is far too easy for users to diddle-around (technical term) with the...

Re: Having trouble recording streaming audio
My wife solved this problem by purchasing the TotalRecorder software that is also referenced on the page that Doug pointed you at - it cost her a mere $17.99 and works well. She captures with TR then imports the capture file into Audacity and does the rest of her editing there. AFAICT from the TR ma...

Re: Normalize and DC offset correction
Ok so I can see the need for retaining DC removal in the Normalize effect for: 1) those who feel the need for speed 2) those who overlooked it after capture But I would still like to have an additional effect which just does DC-removal. 1) It makes the concept of DC on the signal more obviouus to th...

Re: Normalize and DC offset correction
I fully agree, there should appear a "Your soundcard is sh*t" window to make the user aware that s/he has paid money for a piece of crap. ROFLMAO Seriously though Edgar, does your response mean that you would support the separation of the DC-Removal and Normalize functions? My proposal on...

Re: Recording Quality
As Steve says: up the bit rate - I occasionally "borrow" recordings from YT (ones that are not commercially available) by recording with Audacity. I export WAVs which I then import into iTunes to convert to 256 VB AAC. As PGA says they carry the original compression damage from YT but the ...

Re: Deleted? Trying to recover lost sound files
Audacity Projects are not a good way of storing audio long-term. Rather the Audacity project structure is designed for speed. So normally you would use Audacity projects in the production process and then export a WAV file for archival and use (they you may make a compressed MP3 or AAC version for u...

Re: Importing raw data
For future reference (not for you current immediate predicament - but if you do get your files back ok, or re-record, then follow this advice,,,) Do not rely on Audacity projects for long-term backups. They have an internal format that is primarily designed for processing speed - so the projects are...

Re: Turntable Help
Have a look at this tutorial from the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Recording_with_USB_turntables It's part of this set of tutorials: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tutorial_-_Copying_tapes,_LPs_or_minidiscs_to_CD If you still can't get it working after working through that, then pl...

Re: splicing v short audios
Did the computer crash - or did you just exit the program without saving? If so when you next opened Audacity it should have popped up a dialog box offfering to restore the project. Did this happen? What did you do? To do the job with 2.0.0 projects is hard because the file numbering is not squentia...
