I tested Steve's test build for Windows and it worked well - the Mac build crashed on launch.

@AMN - many thanks for nudging me to take a closer look at those two pages in the Manual - it made me realize that they were perhaps not as clear as they could be or should be in regard to what you were asking about. Accordingly I spent some time this morning updating those pages in the alpha Manual...

That's Timeline Quick-Play - it's set "on" by default (it can be a very useful tool for finding pieces of audio - that's why it's on by default) . You can toggle that off/on by right clicking in the Timeline and disabling/enabling it. See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/timeline.html ...

The upcoming version of 3.0.0 which is in development right now will enable you to set your default locations for various file activities in Audacity.

Yes - but that's the way it's always been.

I did try an experimental fix that Steve made - but it was buggy.

On W10 it does occur in 2.4.2 and latest alpha 3.0.0

But not in 2.4.1 or earlier (I started testing back at 2.3.0)
