Re: Audacity Recording Freeze at 38m 47.5s: Win7

It's running quite happily right now on my wife's little Samsung mini laptop/notebook running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.

With a bit of effert I've even persuaded the little beast to record streaming audio from t'interweb (which can sometimes be a challenge for modern W7 systems).

Re: Suggest sound card for recording ~$200

The Phono-Plus v2 is effectively a DJ-Pre11 with a USB sound card added (all in the same box). If you are happy to use the ARTs ADC and its USB services to deliver digitized sound to your PC (and I certainly would be) then this could be the device for you. If however your PCs onboard soundcard is ad...

Re: Why are my LPrecords in Audacity?

For normal, non-compulsive, non-IT people, two is the limit. Beyond that, one of them will get left out and put your backups out of sync or out of management. There was a study somewhere that beyond two is actually worse for the general population. But the really compuslive IT-trained folk will hav...

Re: Suggest sound card for recording ~$200

I see the Art USB Phono Plus v2 is defined as a pre-amp but not as an audio device. No, it is a combined phono pre-amp and USB sound device (USB soundcard - with ADC/DAC onboard). And note that it it is a two-way sound device so you can route you sound output through it too (it has line level outpu...

And -3dB is normally plenty loud enough for most folk - when playing back you can always turn the amp up to 11 :)

Re: Win 8 & Audacity 2.0-All I get is noise

As PGA indicated earlier it's most likely the sound card that need to play in Win8-land - by and large Audacity will record what the sound card sends it.

There were similar problems with W7 when it was new and sound card manufacturers had not provided updated drivers.

If it was me I would definitely remove the clicks first because, as you rightly comment, this will interfere with the levels for amplification/normalization. I use Brian Davies excellent ClickRepair for this task - see this sticky thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1994 R...
