You need to select the audio before an effect can be applied - Tip: Ctrl+A will select the whole project.

And you need to be in Stop mode and nor Pause mode.

How about one of the subforums in this section: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewforum.php?f=25 I would suggest the 2.x feedback and reviews - but I do see your point about a generic forum, we deliberately didn't put one in IIRC as we wanted folk to be specific about their platform from the outset ...

Hotkeys ARE an answer to a different problem: quick access to favorite effects. But they don't make it any easier to explore and experiment with the whole range of effects. For that, we need submenus and categorization. IN my dream version of Audacity, of course, we'd have full categorization, AND ...

@Steve - am I right in assuming that this thread does not need transferring to Wiki>Pending Feature Requests?

Have you got all you need from it? Should I delete this thread or do you want it transferring elsewher on the forum (Audio Processing say) for retention and reference?

The generators will overwrite whatever is selected (regardless of the length of selection) So if you want to add generated track stuff to an existing track just place your cursor at the required position in the required track and then use the generator. The existing audio to the right of your cursor...
