Re: Lighthouse Family question
I doubt the cassette is poor. I would certainly be suspicious of the tape, over time tape stretches a little (not always constantly) and degrades (the neighbouring layers magnetic fields bleed into each other, called print-through). One thing you could try is: before you make the recording rewind t...

Re: Lighthouse Family question
The Steepletone is hardly a hi-fi device ( unlike the Nakamichi that Koz mentions) rather is a budget-priced home entertainment device and thus I would not expect miracles from it in terms of accuracy and fidelity.

Re: selection and number of samples
... I wanted to see if there is a way to count the number of samples. Just change the display format in the Selection Toolbar (normally at the bottom of the Window) and change the display format to Samples - see http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_selection.html#Selection_Toolbar Then whe...

Re: Muted/Soloed track plays in Audacity but is not in MP3
The Manual says (my italics) that whenever playing audio , Solo takes precedence over Mute by default. Yes, but we also tell people "what you hear is what you get" i.e. the exported mix is the same as what you hear during playback. Where do we say that in the Manual? The green div here se...

Re: Muted/Soloed track plays in Audacity but is not in MP3
This concept of there being two mixes in Audacity is one that I suspect only the developers and a handful of users understand. I opine that the vast majority of users believe that the mix that they hear on playback is the same mix that gets exported. 99.999% of the time they will be right and they ...

Re: How do I mark points in the waveform?
I get the idea. Thanks. I have been using the Fade In and Fade Out effects for cross fades, but Envelope seems more precise. You might want try a neat new crossfade plugin that Steve developed recently - see this thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=67131 I have been testi...

Re: Not recognizing any playback or recording options
See this FAQ: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... und_device122344555 wrote:The error message when I try to record anything is: Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.
I have tried all available sample rates, but to no avail.
