Re: Laptops and Audacity

Yup, just plug it in for the recording and then remove it.

But you can also use it as an output soundcard too, using its output RCA jacks to feed your amp/DJ kit. This is likely to give you better sound than using the onboard soundcard on the Samsung.

Re: Laptops and Audacity

Most modern laptops only have a mic-in and not a line-in. Mic level signal are much lower than line levels. If this is the case then you are a candidate for one of the external USB souncards which we know work well with Audacity: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477 The UCA-20...

Re: Tracking Best method

General advice is no - don't use high speed transfers. The RIAA EQ will be inaccurate and you are likely to lose high frequency signal. Do it in real time, enjoy the music. See this set of tutorials from the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidiscs_to_cd.h...

Re: Cassette tapes are dragging

As Thor says and ... Make sure the capstan (the small shiny post thingy that drives the tape) and the pinch-wheel (the big rubber wheel) are clean. Oxide from the tape can build up on these over the years. Do not use alcohol-based solvents on the pinch wheel. There are loads of articles on t'interwe...

Re: How do I hear the Export mix?

All that is required are two new buttons - big, bold ones: "Hear Export Mix" and "Hear Monitor Mix". They need to be interlocked - only one can be in at a time. When either is pressed in, it determines what gets played when the Play button is pressed. If neither is pressed in no...

Re: Won't export entire recording

You are using Export Multiple and not just straight Export, right?

Re: Can't hear sound files

I have used Audacity to import sound... I press 'Play' on the device (I can hear the sound files playing) and then press the Record button on Audacity.... Let's just confirm something. You used File Import Audio to get your sound files into Audacity. Right? That's not the way that I (and Gale previ...

Re: Has Audacity 1.3 Beta been superseded by Audacity 2.0?

There are a few odd experimental features thhat made it into earlier 1.3.x Betas, so some folk keep for those - but by and large you should be perfectly ok with 2.0.2 and discarding 1.3. 2.0.0 was basically a very late 1.3 Beta with a few bug fixes added.

Re: Which internet radio stations in UK have radio reading?

Your best bet will be BBC Radio 4 : http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4

And please don't shout by writing in large typeface, nost browsers have typeface size control for those that want or need larger typeface sizes. I edited your post to renove the shouting.
