Re: Sony MD Walkman MZ-N708 transfer to iMac

I don'y think it's possible to directly convert Sony's ATRAC compression format to WAV/MP3/AAc/whatever - I certainly coundn''t find a converter when I did my MD conversions, but you can record from MD to make the transfer - I've done it. I wanted to avouid going from digital to analog and then back...

Re: hum or buzz question..from a newbee

If they are belt drive TTs you may want to consider replacing the rubber drive belt. Lightly lubricate the bearing with light machine oil (sewing-machine oil is good for this). Clean the stylus (carefully). Don't be tempted to clean it with an alcohol-based solvent as it will probably unsticj the st...

Re: removing scratches from old vynal recordings

The best tool I've found for the job is Brian Davies' excellent ClickRepair - it costs a littke (US$45) but the results are just a little shy of magical. I used Audacity to record the LP, export a WAV too CR and process it and then bring it back into Audacity for all further processing. See this sti...

Re: Recording individual tracks on LP to CD

My other top tip is to consider purchasing Brian Davies' excellent ClickRepair software. It produces almost magical results in cleaning up the clicks and pops from LPs. See this sticky thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1994 Well worth the investment imo especially if you...

Re: Professional sounding fade out.

Yes you should be able to do that - but you may find it easier to apply the existing (linear) Fade In a few times, which will give you a shaped fade. I usually use x3 Fade In - very easy to apply as I have set a keyboard shortcut for Fade In (I use ALT + left-arrow ). 3 seconds is quite a long time ...

Re: hum or buzz question..from a newbee

The ART devices have a good grounding post - so you will need to connect the TT's grounding wire to it (it's normally a thin black wire terminated in a spade connector).

Re: hum or buzz question..from a newbee

If you've got some good real TTs then send back the hunk-of-junk USB TT (certainly sounds as though it may be faulty). Assuming that the TT's that you have don't have inbuilt pre-amps then you will need a phono preamp at the least. It may be sufficient to connect TT=>Phono Pre-amp->computer - but of...

Re: Very Impressed with Audacity 2.2

One tip you might consider: I would advise winding the tape from ened to and and back again before starting the playback for recording. This helps to even out the tension in the tape. Have you seen this set of tutorials in the manual, tou may find some useful tips in there: http://manual.audacitytea...
