Re dead channel or problem with cable I went and bought a new cable and the problem still persists. So I might have a dead channel in my kit. How do you fix this?? Does the tape unit have RCA sockets that you can connect to a hi-fi device or boombox to test to see if it outputs two channels there? ...

I infer from this that you are using a USB tape device. If that is the case then you inpu should be set to be the USB PnP Audio Device

What the poster is asking is to remove applase at the end of each song. Audacity, as Koz says can't remove the applause while the song is going on - but you can trim the applause and fade out the song to minimize the effect and duration of the applause. is this a project you are actively working on? Or are you planning to develop a proposal?

Anyone who has been following this thread will be pleased to know that Steve's Adjustable Fade has been committed as part of future Audacity releases. It is already available for test in the alpha nighlties (it hit the 1Jan13 alpha release) - and will be in the upcoming 2.0.3 release. Also committed...

I think you may be missing the point - it's: select a short bit of audio fade-in, fade-in and fade-in again - all on the originally selected piece of audio
