There is a Timer Record facility already built into Audacity - it is available from the Transport menu, it works well I use it a lot. BTW Windows Media Player is not usually reckoned to ne one of the better CD authoring programs (or player come to that) 8-)

2). creating a track from an .mp3 file is not intuitive I imagine that you mean it the other way around. Creating a track from an MP3 is simply importing a file (Shift-Ctrl I).
