So this begs a question. If I record an album at 96kHz and the same album at 44kHz and I save them both as FLAC, the 96kHz at 24bit FLAC and the 44kHz @ 16bit FLAC. Especially if you are using those to produce compressed MP3 files as your final production file, as WeirDave is doing

Audacity breaks an audio project into all those little samples to facilitate speed of processing - the .au files are managed by a similarly-named .aup file
