Re: RIPPING VINYL Processing 24Bit 96KHz recording to CD-A/D
My 2c based on practical experience (hundred of LPs digitized) I record and edit with Audacity set at it's default 32-bit float 44.1kHz I export to 16-bit 44.1kHz PCM stereo (Red Book CD standard). I have export dithering for down-sampling on export set to Triangular I burn CDs for playing on my Reg...

Re: cassette to mp3 - best noise reduction
... this has to be done from the Line-Out of a good stereo cassette deck to the Line-In of a PC with good audio hardware. Or from the Line-Out of a good stereo cassette deck to the Line-In of a good external USB soundcard to the USB input of a PC (particularly if your PC doesn't have a line-in as m...

Re: editing question
How do I cut part of a track without cutting any of the one below it? first you make sure that Sync-Locking is not turned on - see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sync_locked_track_groups.html then make sure you only click and drag in just the track that you want to select - and not drag upwa...

Re: Help deleting 1 second of file
And you may get a "click" at the join if the waveforms either side don't match.
You should be able to fix this by selecting samples either side of the join (maximum 128 samples) you'll need to zoom in for this - and then use Effect > Repair

Basically to monitor the recording you need to activate Software Playthrough from the Transport menu - and make sure that the output device is targeted on you PCs speakers and not the USB tape deck.

Re: How do I make splits in a track into a whole
P.S Have the devs considered a clickable timeline on the bottom of the tracks window as well as the top? I'd find that very useful. I can add your vote for that - but vertical space is at quite a premium. Why would you find that useful? I'd like to vote -1 for that. I agree with Gale that vertical ...

Re: Converting cassette tapes
What I do is to drop a label at the gap between songs while I am listening - using the Ctrl+M shortcut. Or if the LP/tape has a song listing with timings I sometimes set up the label track ahead of making the recording. I subsequently adjust the label positions as part of my subsequent editing. This...

Re: Suggestions for "repair" workflow
My personal app of choice for this is Brian Davies' ClickRepair - it costs around $40 but I think it is well worth it if you have more than a few LPs to convert. Like you I started out manually fixing clicks with the Repair effect but that was tedious and very time consuming. A steer from fellow for...
