Re: installing audacity for XP ezcap usb cassette capture
How do I ensure that ezcap connects to that version? the EZcap doesn't actually "connect to" any version of Audacity - basically you need to plug it in and then let (or get) Windows to see the device. Then whatever version of Audacity you run will also then see the USB device. See this se...

Re: New track every time i press record
Or more easily you can select all the tracks (use the shortcut Cmd+A) and then use Tracks > Align Tracks > Align End to End

Re: Remove Q setting from high-pass / low-pass filters
"rolloff" appears to be more common in American documentation (when used as a noun), so as the Audacity documentation is in US English I agree we should go with that. "cut-off" is virtually always hyphenated, and "plug-in" is already specified for Audacity documentatio...

Re: Volum change on original MP3 file
Since you have the CD (and I assume this is a proper music CD and not a data CD with MP3 files on it) - rip the track or tracks that you need - you can use iTunes to rip a WAV file or uses a free CD ripper like CDex - but it is important for quality that you get a WAV. Then just import the WAV file ...

Re: Left and Right Channels are identical
It's worth finding yourself an LP that has distinctly different left & right channels to test - my gold-standard for this is the opening track of Sgt Pepper (stereo release of course not the mono version).DVDdoug wrote: ...I wouldn't go by how the waveforms look...

Re: Standard Noise Removal Settings for 30 Year Old Audio Ta
I agree with Koz here - before I started transcribing my tapes I sent my trusty old Nakamichi NX-2 off to the menders for a full service. However if you are just wanting to rely on Audacity's noise removal you want to have a look ta this page in the Manual (the alpha 2.0.6 Manual - bit this section ...

Re: Using noise removal
My first advice is always buy the CD (or MP3) if it's available! Unless it's been "re-mastered" to compete in the "Loudness Wars" 8-) Don't hate me, but I'm still going to buy the CD. ;) There might be a case where I'd prefer the more-dynamic cleaned-up digitized vinyl, but luck...
