Re: Enhancing/mastering 1970's cassette recordings
Start off with a read if this set of tutorials in the Audacity Manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tutorial_-_Copying_tapes,_LPs_or_minidiscs_to_CD This article in the Wiki may be of help tool http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_from_Cassette When I transcribed my old tapes I treated ...

Re: Slight change requested at FAQs
OK I simplified the FAQ title to "What is the maximum recording length?" - as this concurs with the original poster's search term. The text "maximum recording time" appears in the FAQ so that should help if a future user searches for that. On reading and re-reading the original p...

Re: Slight change requested at FAQs
OK we now have a single, consolidated, FAQ in the alpha 2.0.6 Manual - it remains in the "Recording How To" section back to top What is the maximum recording length? Audacity does not restrict the maximum recording length beyond some specific technical and practical limitations. Recording ...

Re: Slight change requested at FAQs
Two FAQ's with near identical titles is ridiculous ;) I can only imagine the one in Troubleshooting is a throwback to when the recording time remaining display in the Audacity Status Bar was badly worded so that everyone thought it was a "free version" limitation. I don't think the curren...

Re: Slight change requested at FAQs
Perhaps "Is there a maximum recording length or limit on recording usage?" is closer to what's needed? For my money these are, and should rightly be, two separate FAQs: 1) Is there a maximum recording length? 2) Is there a time limit on recording usage? Though 2 may be better worded as &q...

Re: Slight change requested at FAQs
Hi Ernie, thanks for that feedback, good catch. I have made changes in the alpha 2.0.6 Manual (we cannot edit the released 2.0.5 Manual) which will become visible once 2.0.6 is released. In the process I notice that we have not one, but two FAQs on the same topic - but in different sections of the m...

Re: Editing Waveform (dB)?
Yes, just zoom in - I would recommend zooming in until you can begin to see the individual sample points (show as little dots on the waveform) - see this page in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/ed ... tml#zoomin

Re: Merging two songs
If you do this you may want to cross-fade the overlap by fading out one track and fading in the other.steve wrote:You can adjust the position of the tracks using the Time Shift tool if you want them to overlap a little.

Try turning on Software Playthrough from the Transport menu. This set of tutorials from the Audacity Manual should help you: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidiscs_to_cd.html especially this one: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recording_with_usb_turntables...

Re: Sound but no recording
I cannot find the system clock you mention and none of the three speaker icons bring up "Recording Devices" when you right click them. Gale means the Windows system clock at the bottom right of your Windows screen - to the left of that there should be a row of little icons, one of which s...
