Thank you so much! I had read something fairly early on that told me NOT to use WASAPI, so I was blowing right by that in the manual. WASAPI has been turned off in the alpha 2.0.6 - but with WASAPI loopback retained to facilitate recording audio that is playing on the computer. I tested WASAPI loop...

A lot of manufacturers' manuals have misleading or incorrect instructions for Audacity. Audacity 2.x is a bit unspecific - which Audacity version.

Oh, and try telling us the make and model number of the tape gadget ...

Do you mean that the tape transport mechanism doesn't move the tape (which is what you said) - or do you mean it's not sending a signal to Audacity
