Thank you so much! I had read something fairly early on that told me NOT to use WASAPI, so I was blowing right by that in the manual. WASAPI has been turned off in the alpha 2.0.6 - but with WASAPI loopback retained to facilitate recording audio that is playing on the computer. I tested WASAPI loop...

A lot of manufacturers' manuals have misleading or incorrect instructions for Audacity. Do you mean that the tape transport mechanism doesn't move the tape (which is what you said) - or do you mean it's not sending a signal to Audacity :?:

See this thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=80349 basically Truncate Silence is much improved for the alpha 2.0.6 (which may be released soon) - you can download the alpha and just use it for the silence removal using 2.0.5 for the rest of your processing if you are wary ...
