Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better

The majority of users are importing music. And that music is usually compressed to death. It's as simple as that. If that is the primary concern, then I venture to say that a better solution would be for "show clipping" to be enabled by default. It would be virtually impossible for a sigh...

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better

So if you had seen this as the track view when making a voice recording, would you have tried to push it higher, or would you have been satisfied that it was high enough? firsttrack005.png Actually I've always worked with and managed level with the meters rather than the waveforms. First learning w...

Re: Gain sliders moving during playback

I can't reproduce this on W7-HP 64-bit on either the latest 2.1.1 release or the latest alpha nightly 2.1.2 r0f79a77 12-aug-15

Re: Speaker Feedback From Concert Audio

Recording a concert is difficult for the big kids. It takes special microphones, attenuator networks, blast filters and monitoring systems to pull off. A good example is to take a good look at the Royal Albert Hall in London where the BBC are currently televising some of the Proms concerts. If you ...

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better

However I am broadly in support if cyrano's point 1 - that the data in the Track Control panel should accurately represent the actuality of the track.

If we can get some broad agreement on this I am prepared to hammer out a Wiki proposal ( the fast track ;) )

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better

It's in the numbers, Steve. WC acknowledged that when he wrote that most YT video's about Audacity distorted. So you are suggesting that the linear track view is directly responsible for people recording so loud that their recording is clipped? That's a bit far fetched isn't it? I don't know about ...

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better

I always change the Solo button behaviour to "Simple", disable the automatic Metadata pop-up, and increase the preview length. Wow that's a good tip about "Simple" behavior for the Solo button - I've struggled with the default Solo for years 8-) I also disable the automatic Meta...

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better

I'm not at all too sure if discussing is a favorite sport here. I went over ALL the feature requests on this forum and most seem to result in some besides-the-point discussion ending in nothing at all besides some ego lifting. But hey, if that's the way you like it... Hahaha - actually we do like a...

Re: Effects are all grayed out--why?

I've been browsing the manual a lot lately and hadn't discovered that one yet. Good old image maps... Thanks for the tip! You have to thank Bill Wharrie for that - it's known internally among Audacity Team as "Bill's-amazing-image-map" 8-) As a documenter I find myself using that main pag...
