It's worth checking to see if the buzzing is in both channels, If it's only in one (left or tight) then you can discard the buzzy one as you 78 I fairly likely to be a mono. recording. Sennheiser also have a good reputation - BBC folk can frequently be seen wearing them for outside broadcasts.

I have a pair of "studio" Sennheisers HD-25-1 - I love 'em, very detailed, but like Koz I don't want to wear them for hours on end ...

Look forward to hearing from you if you have any bright ideas. Sometimes this can happen if you move or nudge a point label accidentally creating a small range label. Look carefully at the label icon, it has three components each of which will independently light up white when you g=hover over them...

Another good tip is to rewind the tape all the way to the end and then back again before making the playback for recording as this re-tensions the tape.

I think I'll add that to the Wiki article I pointed you at.
