Re: How to match bit rate of original file for game?
Peter, they are not "obscure". U-Law and A-Law and ADPCM get asked about regularly on the Forum, especially by people who use Audacity to record messages for telephone systems. I know because of how often I answer those. ;) OK maybe not "obscure" but almost certainly less freque...

Re: How to match bit rate of original file for game?
Rather than lengthen the dropdown menu for "Save as type" I would actually propose shortening and reordering it thus: WAV (Microsoft) signed 16-bit PCM WAV (Microsoft) 32-bit float AIFF (Apple) signed 16-bit PCM MP3 files M4A (AC) files (FFmpeg) Ogg Vorbis files FLAC files ----------------...

Re: How to match bit rate of original file for game?
More of the lower bit depth choices that are inside "Other uncompressed files" should be placed in the main export choices dropdown, as per http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=982 . Now that Leland has removed the "Options" from the export dialog (for the upcoming 2...

Re: How to match bit rate of original file for game? [2.2.1
In the upcoming 2.1.2 release it should get a little easier to find - you'd still need to realize that you needed the "Other uncompressed files" option - but the options are now integrated on the initial dialog hopefully making them easier to spot. As a taster see this page from the 2.1.2 ...

Re: Exporting 32 bit float files: dither or not?
Clickrepair accepts 32. I think I'm set. For now. Indeed it does Harry - and that's exactly what I did when I was converting my LPs 1) raw capture 2) save 32-bit float file 3) process 32-bit file through ClickRepair 4) import processed 32-bit float file back into Audacity for further processing ......

Re: Exporting 32 bit float files: dither or not?
Ooh goody, another vinyl wars thread - now let my hobby-horse out for a canter around the yard ... CD's can sometimes only last a year or two even if well stored. If I must have a CD of something, which is rare, I rip it to WAV and sell the CD on as fast as possible. LP's last longer than CD's - fac...

Unless, that is, you have one of those wretched CDs that were sold a few years back with DRM copy protection on them ...DVDdoug wrote: Like Gale says, don't "record" from a CD player.
