+1 for an option to be able to diasble them - and in all tracks (which would need a Preference).
I never need to use them and I too have in the past suffered from accidentally nudging them.

But there are easier and quicker ways of getting rid of clicks and pops. I used tio do mine manually until Koz steered me in the direction of Brian Davies' ClickRepair. Timeline Quickplay and scrubbing both inhibit recording (as indeed does simple Play)
Just press the Stop button, than all should be well.

Try using Windows Direct Sound or better still WASAPI as your host - see this page in the Manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/device_toolbar.html For earlier versions of Audacity when I couldn't do this I had a blank 3.5 mm jack plug with no cable attached that I inserted into the headphone...

But I get really screwed up toolbars and Timeline if I click on the lined rectangle at the left of the Toolbars (the mover bar) on the Mac - doesn't happen on W10.
I suspect it thinks I'm trying to move them - but it's a null move...
Both tested with lasted alpaha nightly for each platform.
