Re: dividing a vinyl recording into "songs" for Itunes

Any reason you're exporting the work as MP3? We recommend exporting the vinyl capture as WAV (Microsoft), 16-bit and put them somewhere nice as your music archive. Only then make lower quality MP3 files for casual listening. See this suggested workflow from the Audacity Manual: http://manual.audaci...

Re: Thoughts on commercial music CD remastering

When I transcribed my LP collection I mainly re-bought commercially available factory-stamped CDs (especially for my favourite albums). With a few of them I discovered that later re-mastering had ruined the recording - mainly down to the infamous loudness wars. And for those I reverted to converting...

Re: "is an Audacity Project file. Use the 'File > Open' comm

The number of reports of empty saved AUP files went up as soon as we made the AUTOSAVE file a binary file rather than a human-readable XML file. It is a good bet there is a correlation. But we won't have to worry about this in 2.1.4.... I think I can put money on it that you will. Hahahaha - i'm pu...

Re: Please help with the library setup

For the upcoming 2.1.3 release I have updated the Manual, rearraging the installation instructions so that they are split out by operating system. You may find this page from the updated Manual useful: http://alphamanual.audacityteam.org/man/Installing_and_updating_Audacity_on_Mac_OS_X I recently ro...

Re: How does Audacity work?

Yes I plan to capture in WAV format and yes I agree there is a lot of work to do in clean up with this amount of raw data. I plan therefore to process this data in something like Soundsoap to automatically apply a degree of clean up, rather than do a manual repair. Is my planned approach going to b...

Re: Nyquist effects missing

Or it's possible that files in the Audacity app have the xattribute "xattr com.apple.quarantine" set. This means that Gatekeeper blocks them. To fix it, open a Terminal (Applications > Utilities : Terminal.app) then type or paste: sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Audaci...

Re: marking the end point of a selection

To make a selection with a mouse / pointing device, click on the waveform (in the track area, not on the Timeline) for one end of the selection (start or end of the selection), then Shift+Click in the waveform track area for the other end. Or just click and drag while holding the left mouse button ...

Re: Lame download

And it looks as if you can convert only to mp3... Can you not still change the conversion format in Preferences? Of course you can I export as WAV all the time and use iTunes to convert to AAC Edit > Preferences > Import Settings The really annoying thing about iTunes though is that it is the same ...

Re: Lame download

If iTunes can read (or play) the existing file it can convert it to MP3 (or AAC). But, I don't know exactly how to do it See Format conversion in iTunes . Step 6 of those instructions in the released Manual were made ourt of date by a change Apple made in iTunes versions released this year. You can...
