Sorry, no - "Import Appended" is a long-standing Feature Request (would you like me to add your vote for this?).
Fortunately there is a simple work around.
1) Use Ctrl+A to select all the tracks
2) Use Tracks > Align Tracks > Align end to end
3) Export ...

Re: Exporting & Naming
I've always done that by making the 01, 02 etc. part of my label. But there is an option the Export Multiple dialog that allws for pre or post numbering in addition to the label text for the filename - see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/export_multiple.html and look at the section titled "...

(that "cfg" file ... ah ha! Mystery managed... cheers) Hi Barry, thanks for the feedback. Because I swap around my configurations a lot while QA testing I make that problem a little easier by keeping a shortcut to the folder that contains the audacity.cfg and other config stuff on my desk...

BDB, try the new Scrubbing GUI(s) and the pinned centred play/record head. Timer Record has had some big imptovements too. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/scrubbing_and_seeking.html http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/playing_and_recording.html#pinned http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/timer_recor...

Re: Quick Track Splits
My suggestion would be to drop a label at the required point while you are recording.
Ctrl + M shortcut cut will drop a label at the current Record (or play) position,
You can use Export Multiple to export the labelled sections into different audio files.

Re: Plugins go to ~/Library... is problematic
/Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins is not supported. The Manual page that you gave the link for, Gale, looks to say that /Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins is supported - and that thus system-wide plug-ins should be supported. I have not tested the accuracucy/veracity of thi...

Re: Audacity buttons mess up.
I didn't have this with previous Audacity versions. If either Audacity 2.1.3 or 2.2 becomes reality, I hope to see that fixed. 2.1.3 was recently released on 17th March. See this sticky Forum post: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=95279 I don't think that bug has been fixed or...
