Or if you prefer the old behavior where the default is always record on a new track just go to Edit > Preferences and choose the Recording tab and check on the box for Always record on a new track WC THIS is how you handle a change in defaults like that. The Shift option is nice, but it's great to ...

I also repeated the tests with a audio the same length as yours 3 mins 10 secs.

2.0.6 took 5 seconds

2.1.3 thru 2.2.2 RC1 all took 4 seconds

so once again no slowdown observable.

As a reported earlier in this thread - we did appear to have a slowdown on MP3 import for 2.2.0 amd 2.2.1 - but this looks to be fixed for 2.2.2 I spent some time this morning testing the export of one hours audio to MP3 files at default settings to both nu non-spinning SSD and my on-board spinning ...

Go to Edit > Preferences and in the Recording section check on the Software playthrough of input And while you are there you may wish to un-check the overdub which is immediately above it - unless, that is, you want to do overdubbing.
